Learn how to match Freshbox lids to your containers by size and shape. Get practical tips for round and square lids from 12cm to 20.5cm.
Quick answer
Choose a Freshbox lid that matches your container's shape and exact diameter—round lids for round boxes, square lids for square boxes. Measure the rim (not the base) to ensure a snug, airtight fit.
Why shape and size matter
A lid that doesn't match the container's shape or size won't seal properly, leading to spills and faster food spoilage. Freshbox lids are designed specifically for Freshbox containers, so using the correct lid ensures optimal freshness and easy stacking.
Round lids are for round containers, and square lids are for square containers. Mixing shapes won't work, so always check the shape first.
Measuring your container correctly
To find the right lid size, measure the inside diameter of the container's opening (the rim). Do not measure the base or the outer edge, as these can differ. For square containers, measure the length of one side.
If you're between sizes, choose the lid that matches the container's specified size (e.g., 12cm, 17cm, 20.5cm). Using a lid that's too small won't seal, and one that's too large will be loose.
Decision rules for choosing your Freshbox lid
- Match the shape first: Always use a round lid for round containers and a square lid for square containers. A mismatched shape won't seal.
- Measure the rim, not the base: Measure the inside diameter of the container's opening. For square containers, measure one side. Use that number to select the lid size (e.g., 12cm, 17cm, 20.5cm). Keep a measuring tape handy when checking your containers.
- Choose by portion size: For single servings or small sides, pick a 12cm lid. For everyday meals, a 17cm lid works well. For large batches or family portions, go with a 20.5cm lid. Think about how much food you typically store to avoid buying multiple unnecessary sizes.
- Consider storage space: Square lids often stack more efficiently in tight cabinets or fridge shelves. Round lids are easier to grip but may waste corner space. If storage is tight, square lids might be the better choice for your kitchen.
